Welcome to my life! It’s so nice to meet you and I’m so glad you’re here. If for some strange reason you aren’t sure where “here” is exactly, you’re reading a blog about me, Jackie Ruesink, a 20-something wife learning how to adult in the great city of Austin, Texas. I tell true stories about marriage, travel, and organizing my messy life as Christian millennial in the weirdest capitol city of the greatest
country state there is.
There’s a lot of talk amongst people my age about “surviving, not thriving” and generally just living life on the struggle bus. But here’s the thing, busses are the worst. I mean, genuinely. I have not been on a bus that smelled good or was even a little bit comfortable for sleeping. So why is there a part of us that likes admitting that we’re Certified Struggle Bus Drivers, just scraping by?
I think our generation has embodied the reality that it’s ok not to know what you’re doing. And I agree. We don’t need all of the answers to find joy and contentment and the things in life that matter. In fact, admitting that you don’t have the answers is the first step to finding them. But what I don’t agree with is the idea that we have to settle for living life just to survive. I’m not saying I have all the answers but I hope that my honest experiences can help you thrive (and I mean, getting off the struggle bus and (goals) buckling into that Tesla X).
If you’re willing to get off the bus with me, I’m going to make you a few promises.
- I promise to share what I’m learning about adult things like budgeting, buying a house, the realities of marriage, and what the heck an escrow account is
- I promise to share all the great things I’m learning about my city, Austin, and what you can do here to make your heart smile
- I promise to share openly and honestly about how I found the Thing in life that matters, Jesus Christ, who saved me as a kid and who is continually teaching me what it looks like to thrive as his follower
Life is messy and people are too, but that doesn’t mean we have to struggle or survive our way through it. Let’s stand up as a generation to figure this mess out together and find our way into the driver’s seat of our metaphorical Tesla X.
P.S. Don’t forget to say hi in the comments or contact form! I’d love to hear about your mess what I can do to help!
